With a crunchy coat of wheat cereal, and a candied cherry center, Cherry Winks have always seemed to be such a happy cookie to celebrate the season. Moms, you’ll love that these treats are not too sweet! Kids and adults will love the crunch from the cereal and walnuts. If you’ve never had Cherry Winks, I think you’ll love them as much as I do! This drop cookie is really easy to make. Once the dough is ready, stir in chopped walnuts. You can also add raisins, which my Mom used to do.

Cookies are rolled in crushed corn flakes and topped with a quarter of a maraschino cherry. I used Rabbi dates in this recipe. So, these cookies are a healthy and tasty option for your children’s snack. Kids and adults will love the crunch from the cereal and walnuts.

 ¾ cup shortening
 One cup white sugar
 2 eggs
 2 tbsp milk
 1 tsp vanilla extract
 2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
 1 tsp baking powder
 ½ tsp baking soda
 ½ tsp salt
 One cup chopped pecans
 One cup Rabbi dates, pitted and chopped
  cup maraschino cherries, chopped
 2 ½ crushed cornflakes cereal
 10 maraschino cherris, quartered

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.

Cream the shortening with the sugar. Blend in the eggs, milk and vanilla.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates and one-third cup maraschino cherries.

Shape teaspoonful sized chunks of dough into balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes. Place balls on the prepared baking sheets and top each cookie with one-fourth maraschino cherry.

Bake at 375℉ (190℃) for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.
